Hello Everyone!!!!!
So what's on the agenda this week? Well something a little different from what we have been doing before. In fact as this week we will be working on a piece that I want to do myself and one that I think you would enjoy making yourself. As I work through this piece if there is anything that you require explaining with regards to materials or the techniques I will stop and explain these questions in more detail along the way.

There are so many projects and techniques that I have seen or read about in the abundance of magazines available on fibre arts and textiles over the years that it left me somewhat procrastinating over which project I would like to do first. After much deliberation I have decided that for this week's stream we will make an embellished journal cover. This piece will involve using your sewing machine so prior to starting on the actual project I will do a brief introduction explaining the sewing machine. this will only be to discuss what the basic parts are and what we will be using with regard to needles, feet, threads and other related items.

Material List

handmade paper or similar in different colour tones
wax crayons
baking paper
out making plans to go to Sydney to pick up my daughter and my 5
grandchildren to bring them back to South Australia. I have been madly
looking for a house for her and the children to rent but so far no luck.
I have had a couple of doctors appointments just for regular checkups
and prescriptions filling.
I have not forgotten about the notes
from the last class and they will be up in the next couple of days. I
decided to train my dragon and use it for notes to save my wrists.
This
week we will be discussing fabric stamping and free machine embroidery.
So now is the time to get out those sewing machines and blow the dust
off them. Make sure you have some nice new universal needles and
threads. For the fabric some organza, cotton weave, silk etc will be
fine. If you do not have these fabrics you could work on canvas or paper
as well to follow along.
What I thought we would do is as we
work along we can make a technique book out of all the samples that we
will produce. Also remember to keep a sketch book for experimental
unfinished pieces and a box where you can put pieces that are too small,
not finished, you are not happy with them type stuff. Later down the
track we will be using this box of things to make a new work of art.
Okay so on with what you will need this week to follow along.

Week 2: Materials

PVA Glue (this is the white glue you get from hardware stores)
Acrylic Paints
Stamping objects - bubble wrap, rubber stamps, onion bags, cookie cutters, foil, sponges, hand carved stamps etc
Stencils
Foam brushes
Palete knife
Modelling paste
Pippettes
Freezer Paper
Surfaces - Cotton Weave (muslin, broadcloth etc), Silk, Organza (or other sheer fabric), Paper, Canvas etc
The
above stamping and surface items are examples only. Use your
imagination for stamping objects and do not be scared to grab any other
types of fabric to play with.

Of course you can still
follow along with no items and gather them at a later date if you just
want to come along and watch and have a chat.
So until Thursday 11am (AEST)I will say goodbye and hope to see you all at my Spreecast channel Made with MojoAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15098732473809151753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3974951664109458433.post-30787337788206789592013-09-05T13:15:00.003+09:302013-09-08T16:57:58.520+09:30Inaugural Stream
Well
I did it finally. I started streaming. Wow is it nerve racking but I am
sure I will get use to it as time goes on. In this stream I discussed
what and where I would like to take you all on our journey into fiber, textile and mixed media.
I
hope to get the notes up regarding proportion of the human head I
promised from the stream later this week. Below are just some quick
notes from the stream to carry on with.

Remember

Try to keep a book where you spend 5 to 10 min a day (NO longer) sketching or writing down your ideas in.

Draw one face a day in your book. The more you draw the easier it becomes.

Start collecting pictures of faces, eyes, mouths, and noses even hairstyles. These will help you along the way.

Make templates if needed.

Do
NOT throw anything out even what you consider failures. It is amazing
when you look back at how far you have come. Also these pieces can
become the foundation to build onto by cutting, slashing or stitching
etc therefore making that failure into a whole new artwork.

Make sure you are relaxed and have the time to draw. Have fun!!!!

For those who missed the stream here is a link to the recording.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15098732473809151753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3974951664109458433.post-56265280341395985202013-08-29T12:32:00.002+09:302013-08-29T13:00:42.641+09:30First Post and First Stream!!!First up I would like to welcome you all to Made with Mojo. What will this blog be about? Well all sorts of textile, fiber and mixed media ramblings. Over the coming months I am hoping to take you on a journey into the world of Fiber and Textile Art and Mixed Media.
For many years I have had a fascination with the number of fibers, mediums, products and techniques that have become available to us as artists.
These have given way to an unlimited spectrum of possibilities to add a whole new layer to our art.
I have dabbled in many an art and craft over the last 20 years or so but find my passion lies in the use of fibers, fabrics and mixed media. I love manipulating items to create new textured surfaces to work on and create new and interesting ways to combine my passion with other media like paper, paint, stencils, stamps etc.
For many a sewing machine is something you pull out to hem trousers on. Many artisans do not see it as another tool to be added to their arsenal. From cardmakers, scrapbookers or people involved in traditional art and sewing etc., over the next few months I hope to take you out of your comfort zones if you follow along and open up a whole new world and into places you dared not tread.
Along with our sewing machine and items used with a sewing machine we will also be taking trips into the man cave, laundry, kitchen and garden to source items that will enable us to create some unique pieces and help us learn a variety of new techniques.
So if this sounds like you and you think your nerves can handle it jump aboard and take the bus with me on a journey into the world of fiber, textile and mixed media arts.

First Stream

Well today I was meant to start with my first stream but unfortunately I woke up to very bad thunderstorms and my net has been very unreliable at the moment. I was going to cancel all together but my dear friend Ozegran (Jen) had me feeling awful and so I decided to attempt a stream later in the afternoon. This stream will be more of a practice to get my settings set up and the stream will just be an ad hoc stream. I thought the main thing I might go through is How to Draw faces using a given and easy formula so any of you can draw faces for the upcoming projects. If this scares you don't be as I have a fool proof method that even a child can follow if all else fails.
Under normal situations I am thinking that I will stream on Thursday 11am to 1pm AEST. I will confirm the times prior to my next stream. I live in Australia so unfortunately my times may not be suitable for all but I will record so you can still join in.
Today however we will go with the flow and I will post on twitter when I am ready to start.
I have chosen to go with Spreecast as my preferred method of streaming as I believe there will be less problems for those with lower connection speeds and the chat. This may change as time goes on.
As I am a bit pedantic under normal situations I will be listing a product list for those who want to follow along and try the technique/project during the recording or at a later date. Along with product lists sometimes I will be posting up other reading materials and information sheets. If there is something that you will need for the recording I will make this known in advance.
